Char Steakhouse and Bar is committed to making our website accessible to everyone, including guests with disabilities. We want every guest to be able to view our menus, make a reservation, order food, buy a gift card and contact us.

Our standard

We design and test this website to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA, which includes and exceeds WCAG 2.1 Level AA, the standard adopted by the U.S. Department of Justice.

What we have done

  • Menus are published as real web text, not images or scanned PDFs, so screen readers can read them.
  • Every photo has a text description, and decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • The site can be used with a keyboard alone, with a “Skip to main content” link and visible focus indicators.
  • Text and interactive elements meet WCAG color contrast requirements, and body text is at least 16 pixels.
  • Every form field has a visible label, and required fields are clearly marked.
  • The background video on our homepage is muted, can be paused, and does not play for visitors who have turned on “reduce motion” in their device settings.
  • Embedded maps and reservation tools are labeled for assistive technology.

Known limitations

Some features are provided by third parties whose accessibility we do not fully control:

  • Reservations (OpenTable)
  • Online ordering (Toast)
  • Gift card checkout (PayPal)
  • Maps and directions (Google Maps)

We have asked these providers for their accessibility conformance documentation. If any of these tools do not work for you, please call us and we will make your reservation, take your order or sell you a gift card by phone.
